Dog worshiping Day in Nepal on Diwali

Nepal, October 20: As we knew that, Diwali celebrations was widely spread across the country. We also knew that Diwali is a festival of lights. But in the Nepal country, they are celebrating the festival with Dogs.

It is known as Kukur Tihar, It is dedicated to dogs, the occasion is celebrated annually in the Himalayan country and was held on Wednesday (Oct 18) by Nepali Hindus.

As far as dogs are concerned this is the best part of the festival for them — the treats include milk, eggs, meat, high-quality dog food or anything that one likes.

Pet dogs, strays, and working dogs have treated alike, where they are worshipped and honored with flower garlands, rice, yogurt, and of course their favorite treats or high-quality dog food.

A red mark, or tika, is applied to their foreheads too as a blessing. This marks the dog as a devotee of the righteous path and as an object of devotion.

Pooches are praised and painted, with wreaths of flowers being placed around their necks. It's all about celebrating the bond between man and dog, with Hinduism holding that sacred, deep bond especially dear.
