Telangana to setup Hyderabad Road Task Force (HRTF)

Hyderabad, Oct 16: The Telangana Minister for Municipal Administration and Urban Development (MA&UD) KT Rama Rao has announced setting up of Hyderabad Road Task Force (HRTF) to oversee repair, improvement, and maintenance of the entire road network in Hyderabad.

The Minister, who convened the first meeting of Task Force on Wednesday, directed the municipal officials to take up repair works on roads, which were damaged in the recent rains, on a war footing. Repair works worth Rs 77 crore will be launched in the city in the coming days, he said.

The Road Task Force will be responsible for taking up and completing repair works of all the 350 inundation points in the city that were identified recently, before next monsoon. It would complete the entire white top laying works in areas where the water choking points have been identified, he said.

In the coming years, the State government will launch a massive exercise of expanding roads with an overall cost of Rs 20,000 crore. To address short and long term issues related to roads and also to oversee the entire road expansion and new projects, there was a need to set up an exclusive Road Task Force for Hyderabad, the Minister said.

Detailed project reports (DPRs) of road repair and expansion works to be undertaken by the Hyderabad Road Development Corporation have been prepared and soon tenders to take up works would be floated.

The Minister said in the next one-year massive road expansion work worth Rs 1,000 crore under the Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) would be taken up. These projects will go a long way in addressing traffic issues that commuters in Hyderabad face on a daily basis.

The Road Task Force comprises Municipal Administration Secretary, GHMC Commissioner, HMWS&SB Managing Director, HMDA Commissioner, Hyderabad Metro Rail Managing Director and TSIIC, Chief City Planner and CEO of Hyderabad Road Development Corporation.
