Kapu leader Mudragada set deadline to AP Govt for Kapu Reservations

East Godavari, Oct 16: The Andhra Pradesh Former Minister and Kapu leader Mudragada Padmanabham has set December 6 as the deadline for the State government to settle the long-pending Kapu reservation issue.

Addressing the media here on Sunday, Mr. Padmanabham said he would take up the agitation again if the government failed to meet the deadline.

Sounding a warning to Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, he said "We will not rest till our demands are met. We will not sleep and will not allow the Chief Minister to sleep. There is no going back."

"December 6 is the death anniversary of B.R. Ambedkar. That is why we have chosen that date as the deadline. We are not seeking anything out of the way. We are only asking the Chief Minister to keep his election promise of including the Kapus in the list of BCs," he said.

Mr. Naidu had promised during his padayatra and later in his election campaigns that he would include the Kapus in the list of BCs within six months of coming to power.

"Three years have passed by, and he has not done anything on the issue," Mr. Padmanabham said.

He did not rule out the formation of a new party or an alliance with others.

"It is because of the Chief Minister that the Kapus are on the warpath," he said.

"We are not demanding that the entire community be extended the reservation facility. The affluent sections need not be included. Only those who are economically backward should be included, that too without affecting the existing set-up," he said.
