AP Irrigation Minister releases Srisailam dam gates

Srisailam, Oct 12: The Andhra Pradesh Irrigation Minister Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao, Srisailam MLA Budda Rajasekhar Reddy and officials of the Irrigation Department on Thursday morning participated in pujas.

He operated the floodgates and released water from Srisailam Project into the Krishna River. Two gates were lifted by 10 feet allowing 56,000 cusecs of water flow towards Nagarjuna Sagar Project.

Due to the incessant rains, the reservoir is receiving heavy inflows in upper streams and the water level in Srisailam reservoir has reached to 885 feet.



The reservoir received an average inflow of 1,24,600 cusecs the whole of Tuesday and an inflow of 1.05 lakh cusecs was recorded on Wednesday.

The outflow from the reservoir for generation and power and the irrigation schemes was pushed to the maximum of 79,103 cusecs.

With a flood cushion of just 6.22 tmcft on Wednesday morning, the authorities took a risk by not raising the crest gates.
