HC questions TS govt about Nerella incident

Hyderabad, Oct 11: As we know that, The raging issue of Nerella incident has once again come to limelight after High Court at Hyderabad has questioned the Telangana State government for the inordinate delay in filing case against Sub-Inspector of Police against whom the victims of torture in Nerella incident lodged a complaint.

The Government Pleader has informed the court on Tuesday that a criminal case had been filed on October 6 against the Sub-Inspector B. Ravinder.

The division bench comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice M Ganga Rao raised these points during the hearing of a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) petition filed by Civil Liberties Committee president Gaddam Lakshman.

He also seeking a CBI probe into the torture of Dalits belonging to Nerella, Jillela and Ramachandrapuram villages in Siricilla district by the police. The same issue was flagged by retired Justice Chandra Kumar in a letter to the High Court.

Special Government Pleader A Sanjeev Kumar informed the bench that a criminal case had been registered against the Sub- Inspector of Police. when the victims were Dalits, why was a case not registered under the SC, ST Prevention of Atrocities Act, asked the bench.

Earlier, The opposition parties have protested against the Nerella incident and demanded stern action against Police.
