Che Guevara 50 th death Anniversary: Cuba People pay homage

Havana Cuba Oct 9: Nearly 60,000 people gathered in the streets to commemorate the 50th death anniversary of Latin American revolutionary Ernesto 'Che Guevara'.

Cuban President Raul Castro has also attended a mass rally on Sunday at the Che Guevara Mausoleum in the town of Santa Clara, 300 km east of Havana.Many people have paid tributes to the leader and remembered his contribution to the Cuba.

CheGeuvera popularly known for his revolutionary Marxist ideology has inspired many youth with his writings and his guerrilla warfare tactics. He along with the Fidel Castro has overpowered the Dictatorship in Cuba.

In the Castro government, he undertook many reforms such as instituting agrarian land reform, campaign for improving literacy, reviewing the appeals and firing squads for those convicted as war criminals during the revolutionary tribunals. Later he was ambushed and killed in Bolivia on October 9, 1967.

A memorial was built in his name to remember his contributions and on the ground floor of the memorial, a cavern-like enclosure holds the remains of Guevara and 30 of his comrades fallen in Bolivia. An eternal flame, lit by then-President Fidel Castro, pays homage to the fighters.

On Sunday, Raul Castro and other Communist Party leaders paid tribute to Guevara and his guerrilla partners inside the memorial.
