IRCTC: Service Charge Waiver extended to March 2018

New Delhi Oct 4: In a move to grant relief for passengers Indian Railways has extended the service charge exemption on tickets booked online till March 2018.

Earlier the government had waived service charges after demonetization in November last year to encourage digital modes of booking and the facility had been extended twice to September 30.

Previously customers used to pay Rs 20 to 40 service charge based on the tickets booked online.Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) the ticketing agency of the railways, has issued an order extending the benefits to customers until March next year.

Currently, 60 % of Train bookings take place online and IRCTC may suffer a significant loss which may be reimbursed by the central government.
