Ashura is a Muslim celebration that falls on the tenth day of Muharram in the Islamic calendar.

Muharram is the first month of the Islamic year. Ashura begins the evening of Friday, September 29, 2017 and ends on the evening of Saturday, September 30.

Some Muslims fast on the ninth and 10th or 10th and 11th days of the month.Not all Muslim groups observe this occasion in the same manner. Some Muslims regard Muharram as the month of mourning, commemorating the Battle of Karbala. Muharram is primarily an Islamic holiday but people of other religions may also take part in or observe the Muharram activities in India.

The tenth day of Muharram is a government holiday in India so government offices, post offices and banks are closed on that day.

The tenth day of Muharram is on 1st october ,people may fast on 30th September and 1st October or 1st October and 2nd October
