PM forms 5 member EAC

New Delhi Sept 26: Prime Minister Narendra Modi On Monday has announced the formation of an Economic Advisory Council (EAC) under the chairmanship of NITI Aayog member Bibek Debroy.

The five-member EAC will include NITI Aayog's Principal Advisor Ratan Watal as its member and economists Surjit Bhalla, Rathin Roy and Ashima Goyal as part-time members.

The main functions of EAC would be

# analyze any issue, economic or otherwise, referred to it by the prime minister and advising him thereon.

# Address issues of macroeconomic importance and present its views to the prime minister.



# Attending to any other task as may be desired by the prime minister from time to time.

The Announcement by Prime Minister assumes significance because there are reports that Indian Economy has slowed down due to Demonetization and GST.

The committee will advise the PM on some of the key reforms to be taken up.
