Hundreds dead in Ethiopia; Oromo and Somali peoples clashes

Clashes have errupted in Ethiopia between two of the country’s largest ethnic groups this month which left hudreds of dead and thousands of displaced.

Ethiopia is divided into ethnically-based federal regions and the Oromo and Somali people have for years argued over who controls arable land along their shared border.

The killing of two local administrators sparked the already existing land dispute and led to outbreak of clashes.



“We can say hundreds of the Oromo ethnicity were killed... and there were also deaths from the Somali side, we don’t know exactly how many,” government spokesman Negeri told a press conference.
