CEA Arvind Subramanian Gets extension by 1 year

New Delhi Sept 23: The Union government has extended the service of Arvind Subramanian, Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) to Government of India, by one year on Friday.The news was confirmed by Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

Subramanian's three-year tenure was about to end on 16 October this year but the government has extended his service.He was appointed as India's Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) in October 2014.

The main duty of the CEA is to advise the finance minister on macro-economic matters, and primary responsibilities, among others, include authoring the mid-year analysis and the Economic Survey.



Arvind Subramanian has brought out the concept of Jandhan Aadhar and Mobile (JAM) in his economic survey and the government has extended the concept to financial inclusion.

He has also urged the government to cut subsidies for rich and also brought a comprehensive analysis on the effect of demonetization on GDP and said that demonetization has very little effect on the growth of the country.

He has headed several committees and has published a report on tax rates of GST and urged the government to bring Real estate under the GST so that black money can be controlled.
