Shiridi Airport to be operational soon

Shirdi Sept 22: A much-awaited relief would be granted to pilgrims who travel to Shirdi as the Shirdi airport will be operational next month.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on Thursday has issued an aerodrome license for public use during the day which paves way for commercial operation of the flights.

Airport officials said that "They will conduct a test flight in the coming week and we will inaugurate the airport by October second week".The airport would be operated by
Maharashtra Airport Development Company Ltd. (MADC)."

Currently, the temple town, Shirdi sees around one lakh devotees on auspicious days and many tourists face problem reaching the destination because of lack of airport connect.currently
Many people have to catch a train from Aurangabad to reach the destination.

The newly launched airport would reduce the distance between Mumbai and Shirdi to 40 minutes and the airport is located 14 km near to the temple town.
