Cops Cant Be Private Guards, Says Bombay High Court

Mumbai, September 20: The Bombay High Court on Tuesday said that Maharashtra Police cannot be used as a personal security guard. They directed the state government to review every case of police protection.

The Bench of Chief Justice Manjula Chellur and Justice NM Jamdar asked the concerned department to review every case. The bench asked the department to consider whether security was still needed or not.

The court said, "Private persons are virtually treating police as private guards. Security should be given in rarest of rare case, and all cases, in which police is assigned, they need to be reviewed regularly."

The bench was hearing a PIL filed by Sunny Punamia, a citizen of the city, in which all the leaders including the state police
