China Nepal Highway Opened,India opposes

Beijing Sept 19: China has opened another strategically-located highway in Tibet that will connect the region to the Nepal border and the highway could be used for both civilian and military purposes. Experts say that this move by China assumes significance because recently India and China have resolved a 70-day Military standoff at Doklam in Sikkim.

They believe that the move will enable China to make forays into South Asia and provide economic and military benefits. The 40.4-kilometre highway in Tibet between Xigaze airport and Xigaze city center officially opened to the public on Friday, shortening the journey from an hour to 30 minutes.

The China-Nepal railway, which passes through the Chinese border town of Zhangmu and connects with routes in Nepal, will be the first railway by which China enters South Asia. Many people believe that opening highway will irritate India because the Chinese can Use the road for carrying Military weapons and this is an illegal way of entering South Asia by trespassing Nepal Border.
