Union minister Alphons on fuel price hike: owns car or bike; not starving

A comment by bureaucrat-turned-politician Union minister Alphons stroked a controversy when he said the person who have a bike or car is not starving and can afford fuel hike. He said people can afford to pay and they should pay. He even commented that all the money will be used for the people and the government will not steal it.

“Those who own vehicle require petrol also. I don’t think they have any problem in finding their food. In India at least 30% of the people are starving. The Modi government gives top priority to improve their lot. So those who are using fuel have to cough up tax also,” he said adding the tax being levied was reaching the public.

He was criticized for his insensitive comment and for not understanding common man’s problems.
