Hurricane Irma leaves 1.5 million homes powerless

Miami, Sept 16: About 1.5 million homes and businesses in Florida and Georgia have remained without power yesterday after Hurricane Irma hit the coast on September 10.

Irma one of the most powerful Atlantic storms killed at least 84 people when it has hit US main land. Several hard-hit Caribbean islands, including Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, suffered more than half the fatalities due to the storm.

Florida Power & Light, state's biggest electric company, said: "it was working aggressively to restore power to the 23 percent of its customers still in the dark."



Company spokesman Rob Gould said that "the utility has never before had to deal with a storm affecting its entire service territory".Officials said that we are still conducting rescue operation and said that we will make sure that power would be restored soon.
