Australian Man arrested  for using satellite phone

Uttarakhand Sept 14: Indian Police have arrested a person recently for allegedly using a satellite telephone.The arrested was identified as Stuart Ian Scott.

Deepak Rawat, a station officer at Badrinath in Uttarakhand, said that "An Australian man was arrested after authorities detected the use of a satellite telephone two days ago, in the locality of the yoga and meditation ashram where he was staying".

He has also said that "The incident happened when Scott was using the phone which got detected near a sensitive Himalayan border with China. When the officials questioned Scott, he said that he is unaware of the ban on the satellite phone. "

Rawat has added that "While, the other people present there said that they had informed Scott about ban on using the satellite phone in India."

Currently According to Telegraph and Wireless Act, using satellite phones, without government authorization is illegal. police have said that a case has been registered against him under the relevant section of Indian Wireless Telegraphy Act. Further details are awaited.
