India first No Fly list, banning unruly passengers like Shiva Sena MP

Union Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi has released a list banning unruly passengers from travelling in domestic airlines. People in this list can be banned from three months to 2 years depending on the type of offence. This is the first time such list is released in India.

Draft rules were announced following Shiva Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad's misbehaviour with an Air India employee in March. After the offence Gaikwad was banned from flying in any domestic airlines. His ban was lifted by the Civil Aviation Ministry after political pressures from ruling party and other members.

According to present rules airlines can only disallow a passenger to board or to off load if his behavior is bad or assaulting. Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha said, "We have tried to achieve a balance between aircraft security and interests of passengers, cabin crew and airlines at large".
