Union Minister controversial statement on Beef Consumption

Bhubaneswar Odisha, September 8: A minister had made controversial statements.A newly-elected Union Tourism Minister Alphons Kannanthanam has said that "tourists coming from abroad to eat beef in their own country and then come to India."

He has made the above remarks while replying to a question asked about cow vigilantism and restrictions on beef consumption in several states of India and how it has affected India's hospitality sector.

The Minister has addressed the 33rd annual convention of the Indian Association of Tour Operators in Bhubaneswar.

Earlier he was appointed as the Minister of State for Tourism (Independent Charge) in Prime Minister Narendra Modi's new team.

The government has restricted the sale of cow slaughter and has asked the states to prevent cow slaughter. while some states has said that this order has led to decline in Meat supply and has led to decrease in tourist destinations.
