Food Safety Grim in Telangana

Hyderabad, Sept 6: A survey was conducted regarding the status of food safety in Telangana state. Shocking results were revealed in the survey.

* There are no adequate food safety officers in Telangana state.
* There is only one food safety testing lab in the state.
* There is no modern equipment in the lab.
* The recruitment of new officers has been halted because of various reasons.
* Only 30 food safety officers are present in the state out of which 15 are vacant.
* 600 members officials supervise food safety in Tamilnadu.
* 450 members officials are present in Maharashtra.
* More than 150 officials are present in Karnataka.
* 11 food testing labs are present in Tamilnadu

Although the CM KCR has ordered to fill the vacancies and strict vigilance to be maintained the officials said that we cannot supervise the food safety because of lack of proper infrastructure and under staff.

However many people have urged the responsible departments to fill the vacant food safety inspector posts and said that the government must be serious in curbing adulteration of food so that peoples lives are saved.
