Nirmala sitharaman became second defence minister after Indira Gandi

Nirmala Sitharaman is given a place in cabinet which was only given to late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi . Nirmala Sitharaman is the second women after Indira Gandhi to become defence minister.

Additional charge in defence was given to Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in between 1980 to 1982. Apart from handling prime minister’s responsibility Indira Gandhi also used to take care of defence responsibilities.

After Indira Gandhi, Nirmala Sitharaman is second to hold such a vital post and she is first one who is a full time defence minister. In her speech Sitharaman said she is not afraid of criticism. She also said she is very grateful and happy for the confidence which PM has shown on her.

When asked about Pakistan and terrorism related topic she said "I have not even taken charge. I don't think it is appropriate to comment on it now...give me some time."
