Kakinada Muncipal Elections counting started

Kakinada, Sep 01: The Kakinada Municipal Corporation (KMC) Elections results will be revealed on today afternoon.

The polling for the civic body poll took place on Tuesday,i.e. August 29. About 65 per cent polling was reported in the elections, seeing a fierce fight between the Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alliance and the YSR Congress.

Among 50 divisions in the KMC, polls were conducted in 48 only while the remaining were stayed by a court order. The TDP contested 39 divisions leaving nine to its alliance partner BJP.

The TDP-BJP combine has won 24 divisions and is leading in 5. The YSR Congress has won 5 and is leading in 2. Independent candidates have also won 2 divisions.

However, both parties faced trouble from rebel candidates in most of the civic divisions. The YSRC contested from all the 48 divisions but faced rebel trouble in at least half of them. In all, 241 candidates were in the fray.

Kakinada is one of the Smart Cities in India and went to polls after a gap of seven years. Minor incidents of violent clashes between the TDP-BJP combine and YSRC workers were reported on the day of polling. But the voting was largely peaceful, say reports.
