Lottery offer through mobile number

Hyderabad, Aug 31: Nowadays, The criminals are becoming smart and approaching innovative methods to get the money. In this incident, Criminal has taken another's account for rent by paying some commission. These accounts are called as Mule accounts.

The Telangana CID Police on Wednesday arrested a man from Kerala for cheating a person after promising him to get him a Rs. 1 crore lottery that he "won based on his mobile number".

While coming to details, The arrested person was identified as Hamza Othkkum Purath from Kerala. Telangana CID officials who reached Chennai and took Purath into custody and produced him before the court which remanded him in judicial custody.

According to CID Additional Director-General of Police Govind Singh, the complainant had received a call from a person from Mahbubnagar offering a lottery of Rs 25 lakh he had won based on his mobile number and asked him to deposit Rs 25,000 to help him in getting the amount.

The victim deposited Rs 11 lakh in 34 accounts as per suggestion was given by Purath, who then informed him that the lottery amount had gone up to Rs 1 crore. However, Purath switched off the mobile phone after getting the amount.

The CID has advised people not to believe in lottery offers made through calls, especially from Pakistan numbers starting from +92, without physically verifying with companies concerned.
