Infosys to setup facility in West Bengal

Kolkata, Aug 30: A statement was made yesterday.
West Bengal Cheif minister Mamata Banerjee yesterday has announced that IT major Infosys will invest Rs 100 crore to set up a facility in the State.

Earlier the company has halted its plans to setup a facility for various reasons. The Company had demanded land under the Special Economic Zone status.

Sources said that the company had acquired land in the satellite township of Rajarhat by paying Rs 75 crore in 2011-12 for 50 acres of land.

Earlier the West Bengal Government has refused the Infosys request to grant SEZ status and the company has halted its plans and a deadlock continued. The government now resolved the issue by offering special fiscal benefits instead of SEZ status.

The IT Company has confirmed the development and said that the works of setting up new facility would continue shortly. nearly 1000 people would be offered employment because of the investment.

Experts say that the government has resolved the issue smoothly because of the experiences it had observed under a previous government where factories which were interested to set up plants in Bengal later shifted to other states.
