Notices to 21 MLAs

Chennai Aug 29: The politics in Tamilnadu are taking interesting turns.Notices were issued to 21 MLAs of the Opposition party. The privileges committee of the Tamil Nadu assembly has issued notices to the leader of opposition M K Stalin and 20 other party MLAs for carrying gutka, a banned substance, into the state legislative assembly on July 19.

However, DMK Working President has said that he has brought the substances to convey to the house that its easy availability in the market despite claims by the state that it was cracking down on illegal sale.

Earlier the Speaker P Dhanapal said it was a breach of privilege for bringing a banned substance inside the assembly hall and referred it to the privileges committee. The committee has submitted its report and has recommended issuing notices for Legislators.

Sources say that this would reduce the strength of Opposition party and they may not be allowed to vote during the non-confidence motion so that it would benefit ruling party because currently the AIADMK is under minority after the merger because 21 MLA of TTV Dina Karan have withdrawn their support to the government for sideline him and VK Sasikala .
