GST collection in Telangana

Hyderabad, Aug 29: After the implementation of the GST, the Telangana state has gained GST tax collection of Rs 2,609 crores in the first month. The State Commercial Tax Department officials have said that the first time some tax revenue is low, it will improve in next month.

Almost 99 per cent of the tax will be contributed by just 34,236 of the total number of around 2.5 lakh registered traders. Thus, the commercial taxes department focused on these traders, trained them and collected around Rs. 2,609 crores till August 27.

According to official sources, around 32,000 traders have paid the GST till August 27. Out of the total GST collection of Rs. 2,609 crore in the state till August 27,Rs.444 Crores came through cess (mostly on tobacco products and from SCCL coal mines), Rs.781 crore SGST, Rs.878 crore IGST and Rs.506 crore through CGST.

"As many as 34,236 traders will contribute 99.05 per cent tax to the state. We have focused on them. Though the GST collection is not 100 per cent, we have realised the maximum tax even in the first month itself. There may have been some minor hiccups in the first month but these will be overcome in the next two or three months," an official in the commercial taxes department said.

Meanwhile, the official sources said that the state government will raise the issue of work contracts at the 21st GST Council meeting to be held at HICC in Hyderabad on September 9.
