SC refuses e-Auction of IPL Media rights

New Delhi Aug 28: An order was passed today.
The Supreme Court on Monday has refused to direct the BCCI to conduct e-auctioning for awarding media rights relating to the Indian Premier League matches.

Earlier a petition was filed by BJP leader Subramanian Swamy to stay the ongoing tendering process for awarding media rights for the IPL events and order e-auctioning.

Currently, the tender process is going on for the matches scheduled in next year.

BCCI officials have said that the ongoing tender process was a better option as all the bidders put their best bid in a sealed envelope to get the media rights.

Swamy has alleged that there is " collusion and conflict of interest on behalf of a BCCI funtionary who also runs a news channel." This plea was allowed by the top court.

He had also said that the amount involved in the award of IPL media rights is Rs 30,000 crore so the issue should not be decided in an "opaque" manner.

However, the court didn't agree with the BJP leader and has dismissed his petition.
