Indian Army to procure MSRAM missiles by 2020

New Delhi Aug 27: A good news for country's defense.
Indian Army will procure an advanced medium-range surface to air missile (MRSAM) system by 2020.

The missiles are capable to shoot down ballistic missiles, fighter jets, and attack helicopters from a range of around 70 km.

Army officials said that "the missile system will be produced by premier defense research organisation DRDO in collaboration with the Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI)".

Experts say that the MRSAM system will be capable of shooting down

* Enemy ballistic missiles
* Aircraft
* Helicopters
* Drones
* Surveillance aircraft
* AWACS (Airborne Warning and Control Systems) aircraft.

Currently, these missiles are operational with the Indian Air Force and the Navy.

Sources say that Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has signed a Rs. 17,000 crore deal with the IAI for the ambitious project.Army experts feel that procurement of the MRSAM will mark a paradigm shift in its strike capability.
