Dish TV: Do not grant IPL rights to Star

New Delhi, August 24: Dish TV, a direct-to-home service provider, has pleaded against the broadcast rights of the Indian Premier League being granted to STAR network.

A letter was submitted to expressing objections on this issue. If the star gets IPL broadcasting rights, the Star Network monopoly in the sports broadcaster has increased and the viewers will have to pay a substantial amount of subscription costs.

Dish TV MD and chairman Jawahar Goyal has also sent the letter to the Information and Broadcasting Officer Rahul Johri as well as the Competition Commission of India and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.

The Star Network has already had rights to the domestic cricket ICC Tournament, as well as the Asian Cup rights. Also, broadcasting rights to other countries such as England, Australia and Bangladesh cricket tournaments.

If the IPL franchisees have a star hand, they are likely to get their monopoly on all forms of cricket tournament broadcasting.
