Passport Police verification to go Online

New Delhi Aug 22: A good news for Citizens.
Government yesterday has announced that the Police Verification done for issuing passport would soon go online. The government has taken this decision because currently there are delays in issuing passports due to lack of timely verification by the police.

Sources say that Police would be given handheld Tablets/Mobiles so that they can upload the information of people of an applicant online when he visits the home of an applicant for verification.

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh yesterday has launched 'Digital Police portal' under the CCTNS project. The portal will make sure that a national data base on crimes and criminals is maintained.

Sources say that the online verification would now be linked to the database which would make the process much faster. The national digital police portal would be linked the state police-citizen portals so that the police verify information online as they would have access to the crime statistics and analytics.

The Government has said that "The police portal will provide the citizen facility for online complaint registration and request for antecedent verification...the CCTNS project will help in realising the Prime Minister's dream of 'minimum government, maximum governance".

Sources say that the Union Home Ministry will also link the portal with the software of e-courts and e-prisons. This will help the police access court and prison records.
