Anti Dumping Duty on Tempred Glass Imports from China

New Delhi Aug 22: An order was issued.Finance Ministry recently has said that it has imposed a definitive anti-dumping duty on certain "textured toughened (tempered) glass" imports from China.

The government has imposed an anti-dumping duty ranging from $52.85 per tonne to $136.21 per tonne, depending on the producer and exporter from China for 5 years.

The duty has been imposed on 'textured toughened (Tempered) Glass with a minimum of 90.5 per cent transmission having a thickness not exceeding 4.2 mm (including tolerance of 0.2 mm) and where at least one dimension exceeds 1500 mm, whether coated or uncoated.

Currently, the Textured toughened (tempered) glass is used in the manufacture of solar photovoltaic panels and solar thermal applications. Tempered glass has many different names such as

# solar glass
# low iron solar glass
# high transmission photovoltaic glass.

The Government has taken this decision after Gujarat Borosil Ltd a sole producer of tempered glass in the country, had filed the petition seeking anti-dumping probe on 'textured toughened (tempered) glass' imports from China.

Finally, the company has hailed this decision and said that it would bring down the price of Indian made solar cells and other products.
