SC raps centre and states over Midday meal scheme

New Delhi Aug 22: The Supreme Court yesterday has ordered the Centre and states to share the details about the monitoring mechanism established for the implementation of hygiene in the midday meal schemes in government schools across the country.

The Apex court has urged the Centre and the state governments to set up two committees at the national and state level to monitor various aspects of maintaining hygiene in the midday meal schemes in schools.

The court has said based on the details submitted they will issue guidelines/order for implementation of the scheme and fixed the next date of hearing on August 24.

The above remarks were made by the court during the hearing of a PIL filed by NGO 'Antarashtriya Manav Adhikaar Nigraani' in 2013, on the issue of mid-day meals.

The court has said that the governments must be sensitive in such matters because it concerns with the health and education of a child.
