Irom Sharmila Marries Long-Time Partner Desmond Coutinho

KODAIKANAL, August 18: Irom Sharmila, who has been a hunger strike for 16 years against the Armed Forces Privilege Act (AFSPA) in the North Eastern States, has got married. On Thursday, in Kodaikanal of Tamil Nadu, he tied up with his lover Desmond Coutinho to get married. Though her marriage was strongly opposed by all the social organizations, She did not care for it at all.

On Thursday, Sharmila married at the sub-registrars office in Kodaikanal. The couple married after completing two months legal formalities. Many organizations threatened that if both were married, then social rebellion would arise. Iron Lady Irom Sharmila and Desmond Coutinho were allowed to marry under Special Marriage Act-1954.



This marriage was done with the utmost simplicity of no frills. There filmmaker Divya Bharti was present. Divya is often aiming for her own documentary. There are many cases registered against them too. They have also been accused of creating animosity between the two countries through their documentary.
