Award for excellence in e governance

Gurugram, Nov 5 : The Haryana government was conferred with the award for outstanding work in the field of e-governance at the 'State of the States Conclave 2016' organised by India Today in New Delhi, an official said on Saturday.

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley gave away the award. On behalf of Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, his additional Principal Secretary Rakesh Gupta received the award.

Congratulating Gupta, Jaitley appreciated the work done in the field of e-governance in the past two years in Haryana.

Gupta apprised the Union Minister about the number of e-governance initiatives taken up by the Khattar Government and said that the Chief Minister wishes to transform Haryana into a digitally empowered society and knowledge economy.

The bureaucrat said that due to the personal interest taken by Khattar, Haryana that was earlier not so well recognized at national level in terms of e-governance, has emerged as a front ranking state.

Gupta said that the state government has aligned IT vision to Digital India framework.

He said that under 'One-State One-View' initiative, an integrated SRDB (State Residents Data base) has been created. This initiative would ensure de-duplication of records.

Linking data of each citizen with Aadhaar has enabled the state government in identifying those 6.25 lakh consumers who were taking both kerosene oil at subsidised rates from Fair Price Shops while availing the benefit of LPG subsidy.

About 1.5 lakh ration cards were found to be bogus. The initiative has helped in checking pilferage of subsidy. By linking admission of students in schools with their Aadhaar numbers, about 4.5 lakh admissions were found to be bogus, Gupta said.

Gupta claimed that enhancing the Aadhaar scheme the Haryana government has covered 100 percent of its population according to 2015 population estimates.

This has helped in checking waste of government money -- be it scholarship, mid day meal or other benefits.
