IT returns filing increased by 25%

New Delhi, Aug 8: A data was released yesterday. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) yesterday has said that

* Number of Income Tax Returns (ITRs) filed in the current fiscal has increased by 25 %.

* Tax department has said that the number of returns has increased because of demonetization and the Income Tax Department's ( ITD) Operation Clean Money.

* The total number of IT returns filed are 28292955.



* The total number of returns filed by individuals are 27939083.

* 41.79 percent increase took place in the advance tax collections of Personal Income Tax.

* Personal Income Tax under Self Assessment Tax (SAT) grew at 34.25 percent in last financial year.

The tax department has hoped that many more people would file a return in coming years because of GST.
