BJP record in Rajya Sabha

New Delhi, August 4: A rare event has taken place. BJP has the largest members in the Rajya Sabha. The party has now 58 members compared to Congress 57 members. Sampatiya Uikey from Madhya Pradesh has taken oath recently. He was elected to the upper house after the death of Union Minister Anil Dave.

Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has said that "BJP's win is a natural consequence of our support base increasing.” he has also said that "We are in power in most states and since the Rajya Sabha is a council of the states, the strength of the BJP has to be reflected".



Earlier Congress was having a majority for past 65 years.but its strength has declined gradually. However, the NDA falls short of the majority to pass the bills but the party will improve its position in upcoming years.

The congress has lost its majority because of the death of two members and also its worst performance in state elections.
