Railway lines in Kerala and Tamilnadu approved

New Delhi, Aug 3: A meeting was held yesterday.The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has yesterday approved the following projects.

* Construction of an electrified second line between Vanchi-Maniyachchi-Nagercoil via Tirunelveli in Tamilnadu. The total length of the line will be 102 km and the estimated cost of the Project will be Rs.1003.94 crore and will generate 24.48 lakh man days of employment.

* Construction of double line with electrification of Madurai-Vanchi and Maniyachchi- Tuticorin in Tamil Nadu.The total length of the line will be 160 km and the estimated cost of the project will be Rs.1182.31 crore and will provide 38.40 lakh man days of employment.

* Construction of double line with electrification of Thiruvananthapuram -and Kanyakumari in Kerala and Tamil Nadu. The total length of the line is 86.56 km.The estimated cost of the project is Rs 1,431.90 crore. this project would generate 20.77 lakh man days employment.

Railways have said that all the above projects " would speed up the operation of goods and coaching trains and also provide additional capacity for meeting the increase in traffic in future." All the three projects are expected to be completed by 2020-2021.
