Alprazolam drugs worth of Rs 7.5 crores seized

Hyderabad, July 29: The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) officials have arrested 4 persons for illegally making Alprazolam, which was a banned drug and seized 600 kg of Alprazolam drug worth of 7.5 crores from illegal manufacturing units in Medak and Nalgonda.

Officials say Alprazolam is used in AP and Telangana to adulterate toddy."Five gram is sufficient to adulterate 2,000 liters of toddy. Busting of the gang prevented the infusion of over 600 kg of alprazolam,” revealed an official adding.

Of the 600 kg of material recovered, 18.55 kg was in finished stage. "Market value of the seized Alprazolam is more than Rs.5 crore and its material seized is worth Rs 7.5 crore in the grey market," said DRI Additional Director A Prasad.

A case was booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
