Govt asks private TV channels to promote GST

New Delhi, July 28: The government has been making continuous efforts in order to ensure that the new tax regime unfolds seamlessly and is able to benefit the maximum number of people in the country.

One step that is being assigned great importance has to be the awareness campaigns. In a recent attempt to promote GST, The Information and Broadcasting ministry (I&B) has asked all private TV channels to run scrolls relating to the GST awareness campaign Manthan.

The government has also asked TV channels and FM radios to promote as much as possible the mission of 'Mission Indradhanush'.

Though the big companies understand the GST policies, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting believes that merchants and shopkeepers in the rural areas have not received any knowledge of the GST.

In this backdrop, the government has organized campaigning programs across the country for GST.

GST was successfully brought in action on July 1 and it is being considered as the biggest tax reform in the country since independence.

An advisory was issued on Thursday wherein the ministry requested the various TV channels, News Broadcasters Association (NBA) and Indian Broadcasting Foundation (IBF) to promote the awareness campaign especially dedicated to the new tax regime.

By means of this campaign, the government would be conducting various workshops throughout the entire country. The advisory mentioned, "Keeping in view the importance of the matter, all TV channels and their associations viz. News Broadcasters Association and Indian Broadcasting Foundation, are requested to run the scrolls, on pro bono basis."
