Indian security forces granted financial  powers

New Delhi July 28: A reform took place recently.The central government has delegated partial financial powers to the Army, the Navy and the Indian Air Force of the country.The defense ministry has said that this move would strengthen perimeter security at sensitive military installations across the country.

Defence Minister Arun Jaitley has said that " we have fixed strict timelines to ensure that the works are undertaken on priority and in a time-bound manner to ensure full security at the critical defense assets".

He has also said that "the vice-chiefs of the three services would now have the powers to place orders, procure equipment and carry out civil works without seeking approvals of the defence ministry and also decision-making process involved in modernizing the Indian Army would be expedited.

Sources say that with the new powers acquired each of the three vice chiefs will be able to spend at least Rs 800 crore annually in strengthening perimeter security at the sensitive bases.

Currently, the country has a total of 3,000 sensitive bases, including 600 highly sensitive installations of the Army. Finally, the Indian security forces have hailed the governments move.
