DMK questions TN move to seek one-year NEET exemption

Chennai, July 25: DMK Working President M.K. Stalin on Tuesday questioned the Tamil Nadu government's move to seek exemption from NEET for at least a year.

Why should the Centre hold a common entrance test to admit students in graduate courses in medical and dental colleges run by state governments, the DMK leader asked in a statement released here.

Stalin urged the AIADMK government to raise its voice to "protect the state's rights" by securing permanent exemption from the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET) instead of trying out tactics like exemption for a year.

Stalin said NEET is not a central government subsidy that is meant to be handed out as per its wishes and asked why the state government was begging for temporary exemptions.

The Leader of Opposition in Tamil Nadu Assembly said the last NEET results should be cancelled as the Centre has since admitted that there were two sets of question papers.

He wondered why certain medical institutions run by the Centre were exempted from NEET.
