India has the third highest number of terrorist attacks in 2016

New Delhi, July 24: According to the latest data compiled by the US State Department, India has been ranked third in the countries where the maximum number of terrorist attacks took place in 2016, while Pakistan has moved to fourth place.

The State Department said in its country report on terrorism that Iraq was the first to face 2,965 terrorist attacks, while Afghanistan was at second place with 1,340 attacks.

There were 927 terrorist attacks in India and they remained in third place, while Pakistan witnessed 734 terrorist attacks on the fourth and fourth position.

The department said that in 2016, more than half of the terrorist attacks in India occurred in four states - Jammu and Kashmir (19%), Chhattisgarh (18%), Manipur (12%) and Jharkhand (10%).

The State Department said that these geographical patterns are slightly more stable than 2015 and Jammu and Kashmir is an exception, where in 2016 terrorist attacks have increased by 93%.

In its annual report, the Department said that in 2016, terrorist attacks in India increased by 16% and total deaths increased by 17%.

In the case of the highest number of terror attacks in India, India may have remained third in the year, but the level of losses in these attacks has been relatively lower compared to other countries most affected by terrorist violence.
