Gold smuggling through mixer

Hyderabad, July 14: The customs officials have arranged 13 drones cameras, nine of them of a large size to nab the smugglers at Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in the early hours of Thursday.

While coming to the matter, A woman passenger was arrested by officials of the directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) on charges of smuggling gold weighing about 1.50 kg. She had concealed the gold as a component in an electric mixer. She came from Abu Dhabi the early hours.

"It was noticed that the woman was carrying white-coloured Preethi mixer along with three jars.
We conducted a thorough examination of the mixer and found that its motor appeared to be tampered with," officials said.

When officers dismantled it, gold was found inside it. Gold, in liquid form, was poured into the mould of the motor core which was then sealed with a metal sheet.

The gold, weighing 1.50 kg, was worth Rs.45 lakh. Officials a registered case and arrested her. They suspect that some smuggler gangs might have induced her with money to carry the gold.
