Food bill must be reduced under GST

New Delhi July 12: A new tax regime is being successfully being implemented in India. The central government has been conducting 'GST Ki Masterclass' regularly to help people. Revenue secretary Hasmukh Adhia has spoken to media yesterday and has clarified some of the doubts.

He has urged all the hotels and Restaurants to reduce the food bill under the new tax regime". he has also said that earlier owners had to pay service tax and VAT and they couldnt get credit for taxes paid on goods they have purchased but under GST all owners can claim Input Tax credit and this must be passed to the customers in the form of price reduction".

Adhia has said that VAT will be applicable on liquor served because it is not included in GST. He has also sais that NON AC restaurants would attract 12 % GST, while AC would attract 18 %.

GSTN chairman has said that we are receiving daily 10000 calls per day regarding the implementation of the new tax system. He has also said that keeping in view of public response we will increase the helplines to 400 in coming 2 weeks so that all people can get prepared for filing their first return by September.
