Law Commission recommends ban on antibiotics in chicken

New Delhi, July 11: A sad news for chicken lovers. Law Commission has said that chicken consumed in India is contaminated with antibiotics. The body has also warned consumers to be aware because eating these would lead to drug resistance in your body.

The law report has come to this conclusion after it has studied various cases and reports published in health journals. The commission has advised veterinary surgeons and doctors to ban the use of antibiotics and coccidiostats.

This order would be applicable to all broiler chickens and egg laying hens. The commission has also given following suggestions

* Food supplied to birds must be antibiotic free.
* FSSAI to lay clear quality standard procedures on antibiotic residues in poultry.
* It has also asked health departments to appoint more veterinary doctors so that the chicken can be inspected before consuming.

Let's hope that government implements the law panel report.
