GST impact on TTD

The Goods and Services Tax (GST) has been effected from July 01, From this aspect, there is a huge impact on Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam.

The sole custodian of the temple of Sri Venkateswara, to the tune of Rs. 51 crore annually.It may end up paying Rs. 32 crore more towards procurement of raw materials and other goods and Rs. 19 crore for various pilgrim services.

Addressing the media here on Friday, Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams Executive Officer Anil Kumar Singhal said though the famous laddu prasadam had been exempted from GST, other pilgrim amenities such as accommodation and kalyana mandapams, and sale of gold and silver dollars had been brought under its regime.

Similarly, GST would be imposed on the TTD's kalyana mandapams charging Rs. 10,000 and above per day. However, common pilgrims would not be affected as the tariff in 86% of the cottages was below Rs. 1,000 per day, he said.
