EC clarifies doubts regarding President Elections

New Delhi, July 7: Tension in the political party is increasing day by day as the President election date approaches. Election Commission has yesterday has clarified some of the doubts members are having regarding President elections.The clarifications issued are as follows

* Members who are absent on the voting day of election
will not be disqualified.

* Members who vote against party line are not liable for disqualification.

* EC has also said that Political parties cannot issue a whip to their members to be
compulsorily present for the voting or to vote for a certain candidate.

* Every MLA /MP has his own right whether to vote or whom to vote in a presidential
election citing Supreme Court Judgement in 2006.

* Commission has also said that Tenth schedule will not be applicable
because the President election is different from proceedings of any of the houses.

* EC has also said that Nominated members cannot vote in the election.

Currently, the President election will take place on July 17.
