Delhi HC dismisses plea to bar MPs, MLAs from poll campaign

New Delhi, July 06: The Delhi High Court on Wednesday dismissed a petition seeking to stop sitting MLAs and MPs from participating in the election campaign on behalf of their parties.

The petition expressed the opinion that there is no strong topic. Furthermore, the petition does not have any mention of whether the allegations were made in the election campaign on behalf of their respective parties as well as whether there was any breach of statutory rights.

The bench comprising Geeta Mittal and Justice Hari Shankar made it clear. The petition was filed by a retired police officer Mohan Singh Sharma.

Petitioner Mohan Singh Sharma, a retired sub-inspector, had said that after MPs and MLAs take oath, "it should be presumed that they will only work for the nation and not for any political party during their tenure".
