Jammu and Kashmir Assembly passes GST bill

Srinagar, July 5: A big win for Kashmiri people. The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly had passed the Constitution Amendment Bill to implement GST in the state. Earlier the Opposition has opposed the bill and they have sought certain amendments in the bill to protect the fiscal autonomy of the state.

The government has called an emergency cabinet meeting to adopt the bill and send it to Union government so that GST can be implemented in the state.

Earlier Traders and Separatists have protested against the implementation of the tax reform in the state because it violates Article 370 of the constitution. However Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has repeatedly said that if the state doesn't adopt new system than the prices of the goods and services will go up and the people will suffer.

Finally, people are happy because the overall prices under GST would come down and economic integration with the state takes place.
