Vegetables Prices hiked

Hyderabad, July 04: AS we knew the Telangana has been received the heavy rains, due to the inclement weather, the prices of the vegetables have been hiked, which will eventually burden on middle-class people.

The sudden rise in cost has put a lot of strain on the monthly budget of the middle-class families.

A kg of tomato now costs Rs 60 at Kothapet vegetable market. Last week, the rate touched Rs 80 at several supermarkets here. In contrast, a kg of tomato cost close to Rs 10 in March.

Chillis, which stood at Rs 35 a kg in March, has now shot up to Rs 70 a kg. Similarly, a kg of beans is hovering between Rs 50 and Rs 48 as against Rs 25-30.

According to Kothapet market yard officials, the city receives its vegetable supplies from nearby districts of Medak, Rangareddy, Nalgonda, Mahabubnagar. From Andhra Pradesh, it gets from Madanapalle in Chittoor and Anantapur districts.

Heavy rains in districts, especially in Madanapalle, have had its impact on the flow of vegetables to Hyderabad.

According to traders, it takes a month or two for the fresh vegetables to grow or ripen, so the price rise is likely to be there for a couple of months.
